Holy Saturday: In Silence We Await

Holy Saturday (from Latin Sabbatum Sanctum) is sacred as the day that the Lord is asleep in silence. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ's body lay in the tomb.

Also known as the Great Sabbath, Black Saturday, Easter Eve, Joyous Saturday, Saturday of Holy Week or the Saturday of Light, this should be the most calm and quiet day of the whole Church year, a day broken by no liturgical function. When all seems dark and grim and the only thing left to do is wait as Christ lies in the grave, the Church sits near and mourns.

Holy Saturday is not only a day of loss, but also a day of quiet hope. "For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay" (Psalm 15).

As we meditate at the Lord's tomb today, let us see in that tomb all the children who have been killed by abortion. They are there. They share the suffering of death, which God Himself chose to share in order to destroy.

Good Friday is observed by many Christians around the world on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s Passion, crucifixion and his death at Calvary.

As part of the Paschal Triduum, Good Friday is a religious holiday observed during Holy Week and may correspond with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday, Easter Friday or the Friday in Easter week.

Today, is a special day for Reflection, Penance and Prayers. To remember the death of Jesus on the cross and challenge the mystery of the cross. A day of fasting and abstinence to shape our awareness and openness. A day to stand at the foot of the cross as a forgiven sinner. 

His sufferings and death will always be a part of our  lives no matter what religion or spirituality we affiliate ourselves with. We can be a true disciples of Christ by embracing our hearts and deal with the cross that we personally carry.

Today's Daily Reflection: 
For our sake our Redeemer suffered death and was buried, and rose again.  With heartfelt love let us adore him, and pray: Lord, have mercy on us. 

Christ our teacher, for our sake you were obedient even to accepting death...
     - Teach us to obey the Father's will in all things. 

Christ our life, by your death on the cross you destroyed the power of evil and death... 
     - May we die with you, to rise with you in glory.

Saying I Love you is not enough to make the relationships rolling, we should equate it with actions to express ourselves. And when we do express ourselves, we shouldn't expect more from our partner's ends. The best thing we could do is give what we want to get and expect less so we won't end up being disappointed.
